Has your work on illustrations also shaped how you skate or how you feel about it?
I once had a guy who knew my work and knew that I lived nearby. He guessed who I was based on the way I skated at my local park. I had hurt my ankle at the time and was skating silly in a goofy outfit and with a cruiser board so maybe that was why (laughs). I’ve definitely always enjoyed weirder or creative approaches to skating. Jason Adams and Louie Barletta, as well as Chris Haslam and Daewon Song, really informed my approach to skateboarding. I think that ties in with the sort of cartoony way I depict skateboarding. It’s sort of a self-feeding cycle.
