How long have been drawing skateboard sketches and why? I’ve been drawing skateboard since I was in college. I didn’t skate at the time. I was learning to be an illustrator and I was thinking about drawing something unique and amazing. Then, there the song name “Boneless – Steve Aoki” came out which is about skateboarding. I love the vibes from skaters. They are so dynamic and free, so I sketched the first Aodai skateboard when I was in class.
Where do you get the inspiration from? For my works in general, I get inspiration from music, comics and other creatives on Behance.
What was your Project ‘Let Yourself Go’ about? It’s about Freedom and self expression. Vietnamese people are so tied to the fear, shame and guilt feeling. These feelings froze them to do what they love to do. So I raised my voice to show people what freedom and passion look like in different position in society: the police, the Aodai girls or the environment worker. love to see people break free.
What does skateboarding mean to you? I start to learn skateboarding this year, and I love it. Skateboarding is like freedom to me. It’s like meditate when I skate, my mind is free and my sould gets lifted.
If there is one thing you could change about skateboarding, what would it be? It would be the graphic of the board, I love making graphic for the board and that would be great to have a line of boards that contain my graphic on them.
