‘I chose this pic, not because it is an overly good photo, but because of how amazing the subject is. I first saw Bryce skating at Poods with our friend Daniel Cuervo. I watched them skate the bowl from a distance and thought she was an adult. I appreciated her unique style both on and off the board. I remember thinking to myself “that woman is rad”. Fast forward a few months, and at some point I learned that the “woman” I thought was so rad, was actually a teenager. It was that moment I was even more stoked on her. I was a punk girl as a teen and young adult. I have always lived my life in some sort of subculture, so I had a deep appreciation that she was a teenager doing her own thing. Teen years are hard, and as a female to step out of the box and be their unique self takes a lot of courage and I immediately respected that. I wanted to tell her how amazing she is and to keep being true to herself. I got that chance at my friend, Mancha’s B-Team Ramp Backyard Bash. Mancha invited me to photograph the event and standing on top of the Vert ramp I pulled Bryce aside and told her how much respect I had for her, and how she should never dim her light and continue being her bright self. Bryce was a sweetheart and gave me a little bracelet she had made.We talked for a bit and she mentioned some of her creative ideas. We both wanted to do some photo shoots and some music videos together. From that day on, Bryce and I kept running into eachother and I got to know her even more. When I say this girl is incredible, I truly mean it. I am inspired by her and the way she looks at the world. Speaking with her is what I imagine speaking to Ghandi would be like. Bryce sees the beauty in everything and looks at the world with a child like wonder that is extraordinary. I love being around the energy she brings to everyone around her. The day this picture was taken Bryce had texted me to come over to her house with my boyfriend, Isaiah Johnson, to “do some fun creative stuff”. So I grabbed my camera and Isaiah brought his Go Pro and we headed over.We didn’t have a plan. Bryce just wanted to create art with us. So we all were just hanging out and chatting. Isaiah filmed some clips for Bryce, and I casually snapped some photos. This shot, although not one of my best, is a candid I got of Bryce that day. The reason I love this one so much is because it captures Bryce is her element. She is skating outside in the sunshine; loving life. Bryce is one-of-a-kind and I, like many, now look at the world differently because of her, and for that reason I am a better person for knowing her.’
